The Student Sustainability Skills Survey 2024 gathers insights on University of Worcester students’ sustainability knowledge, attitudes, and skills. These findings help shape initiatives that equip students with the tools they need to live and thrive sustainably.

A majority (77%) of respondents, in the Student Sustainability Skills Survey 2024, said that sustainable development should be actively incorporated and promoted by students’ unions

These results show strong support for the Union’s initiatives, while also revealing a significant number of students who are unaware of the Union’s efforts to support pro-environmental behaviours, highlighting the need for better communication of these activities.

Education for Sustainable Development
The survey highlights strong student demand for greater sustainability integration in education, with 46% of students feeling their courses address environmental impacts, yet 49% reporting that climate change has not been covered. While 62% feel their institution encourages environmental action, there is room for improvement, especially in non-science courses where 76% of students want sustainable development incorporated.
“There is a gap between young people’s interest in sustainability and the ability of academic institutions to nurture this interest.”
Worcester Students’ Union acknowledges students’ desire for more support in integrating education for sustainable development and will collaborate with academic representatives to amplify student voices in championing this cause.
