Go Green Week 2020

  • by

Go Green Week returned for the 10th year running!

Ran by the University of Worcester’s first year an introduction to sustainability students’ and the sustainability department the week taught attendees ways to live more sustainably and promotes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) created by the United Nations. All thanks to the hard work of volunteers, several stalls, special guests, events and activities.

Director of sustainability Katy Boom found the event to be a success; “Each Go Green Week just improves as we blend new fun activities and events in with tried and trusted old favourites. What I loved the most from this year was the amount of complete engagement from so many students. The businesses and organisations felt a lift from the enthusiasm of the students as soon as they stepped onto campus.”

It was not just the students of the university attending, but the students of Oldbury Park primary school. The children participated in the yoga, interacted with educational stalls and more! Katy Boom states “The work with Oldbury Park and the entire school getting involved was inspirational”

The hedgehog house which was built at the event by Wild Goose Training now has it’s very own resident, who’s name Snoopy Hog-hog was voted by the university students. Watch this video of her settling in here!

One of the event’s volunteers, Jessica Bull who worked on the bake-off stand says “The bake-off stand was a huge hit, everyone loved the variety of cakes and it was super fun and yummy stall to add into the week.”

“My personal favourite part of the week was giving out the cake to everyone, their faces were brilliant!”

Student Union president, Harry Lonsdale says “Students come to university thinking sustainability is a green and black bin when actually its a lot more than that”

Mr Lonsdale adds; “I think it is really important that we educate the youth and the future of tomorrow.”

Below is a list of just a few of the 70 stalls and guests that had attended and the photo gallery of this year’s Go Green Week.
