The student lead team from Energize Worcester were out in force on the fourth day of go green week promoting their cause to:
“save your money, improve your health and protect our environment”
By giving out energy saving advice, and how to be more energy efficient at home! I think this fantastic, as many students were interested in not only saving money, but living more sustainable lives which is beneficial for our future!
Energize Worcester have six tips featured above of how to become more energy friendly!
Here’s an odd one! You could save £25 a year if you put tinfoil behind your radiators! However, in amongst how stylish and on trend your radiators will look, it does make sense as nearly 40% of heat loss from radiators is lost through walls! This is definitely something to think about!
An image taken in relation to actonenergy, of how to insulate our walls efficiently!
Secondly, you could now turn down the thermostat, if you turn it down by one degree Celsius, it could save you uo to £65 a year! Snuggling up with all your friends and flat mates works too! Looking at my thermal infrared image that Act on Energy let me see, I would say I’m already hot enough!
Why not jazz your door way up with a nice long cuddly Polar Bear shaped draught proofer at the base of your door, or even chuck your dirty old clothes to stop the breeze, it could save you £50 a year! If you’re an adventurous student and have decided to wash your clothes, why not switch your wash from 40 to 30 degrees Celsius, most detergents works just as well at low temperatures nowadays! As we’re on a washing theme… why not install a free water saving kit! This has saved students nearly £200! Collect one from the sustainability department!
Last but not least Energize Worcester and Act on Energy encourages everyone to replace your old light bulbs with energy efficient ones, saving £40 a year! The representative of Act on Energy declared that:
“Changing your light bulbs from 6 watts to 2 or 4 watts this is ten times more efficient than ordinary light bulbs, saving you more money in the long term”
This evening the sustainability students planned a hippy themed, candle lit acoustic night raising awareness subtly about how to become more sustainable and energy efficient.
Flyers were left out for students to look at their own leisure, the Pear Tree Bar at the Students Union was full with hippie themed decorations, and most importantly filled with students.
This is the best type of way in getting students here at The University of Worcester interested! As students are the people of tomorrow, and together we should change today and protect tomorrow!
Bring it on for the last day of Go Green Week tomorrow!
Hey! Thank you, I really appreciate your comment and that you liked it, especially they way it was written! That is really kind! We should definitely be aware! That me smile plenty! Happy reading!
Your method of explaining the whole thing in this piece of writing is really pleasant, all can simply be aware of
it, Thanks a lot.
Well done to all the students who have given their time this week – its been great to see the displays and have a chance to chat to some of you about the issues.
I was hoping to see some photos of hippy fashion on the blog as it would be wonderfully nostalgic for me – Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Joni Mitchell, The Band – all at Wembley in 1974 – I could go on but you’ve probably no idea who these people are anyway – but we all dreamed of a better more sustainable future then and its great to see students still trying to change the world for the better now!
Thank you so much for your comment. I completely agree, many of the students have given so much time, and put so much effort into planning this week that it has been a great success! Many more students are looking at ways that they can make the world we live in more sustainable. Some of my photos of students wearing the hippy fashion blurred so I did not have chance to put them on, however I’m sure your memories are nostalgic enough! I would have loved to hear The Band at Wembly – I think I was born in the wrong era! However, together we all can still dream of a more sustainable future, and I believe making everyone aware, especially students – the people of tomorrow – of how to do so, is a footstep in the right direction! Together we can change today and protect tomorrow with every small step we take!
