Responsible Futures Green Impact Project

The Responsible Futures Green Impact project surveyed 70 students during the University of Worcester’s Go Green Week in February to investigate students’ views on sustainability in the curriculum.

Most students reported that the university has strongly influenced how important sustainability is in their futures, whether personally, professionally, or both, which highlights why it’s essential in teaching.

Over half of the students expressed a desire for more sustainability learning to be embedded, particularly in their specific courses, such as English courses that include environmental literature. Students also suggested ways to promote more engagement, such as through specialist guest lecturers and expanded coverage of sustainability topics, like AI.

While some courses, unsurprisingly, include sustainability, such as Geography and Environmental Management, students highlighted their desire for similar opportunities. Students identified Policing and other courses that may not be obvious, where sustainability is not incorporated.

Overall, students value sustainability in teaching and are eager to learn more to prepare for their futures beyond university.
