The Student Sustainability Hub is officially open in the Thomas Telford building on St Johns Campus. Written by Katy Boom, edited by Rosie Bramwell.
A new self-access facility offering drop-in and workshops for all students has been established by the Worcester Students’ Union and the University of Worcester. A facility that’s open every day from 7.00 am to 10 pm with a range of free activities, information, a place to hang out and also make friends. This is a lovely new space that also includes its own ‘greenhouse’, or rather cleverly re-purposed entrance lobby.
What’s in the hub?
Popular activities include terrarium-making and bird drawing great for your mental well-being. Over the last few months our students have hosted terrarium workshops that have always sold out on tickets. The workshops will be hosted more regularly the coming academic year to meet the fantastic demand!

Don’t worry, we immediately repaired the bunting with the available sewing machines! We also have all the haberdashery you might need to get going with your own sewing project. Donations to the sustainability hub’s haberdashery are always gratefully received. We have the lovely Veronica who runs beginners’ workshops if you need advice and help on how to use a sewing machine, as well as tips on how to make your cotton shopper from re-purposed duvet covers and pockets from old student nurse’s uniforms. This is what we make our bunting from as well.
We are also keen to add new activities and gather feedback from users, people are encouraged to write notes or put counters in the jars if they have used the space. Next time you pop into the sustainability hub let us know what you think of the new space!
